Vimag Labs patents rare-earth-free electric motor using software-driven magnetic fields
Bengaluru startup Vimag Labs has secured its fifth patent for an electric motor that eliminates rare-earth magnets, relying on advanced power electronics and software control to generate magnetic fields, aiming to reduce EV motor costs and supply chain risks.
Vimag Labs, a small startup based in Bengaluru, India, has made a significant technical advance in electric motor design by creating a motor that does not require rare-earth magnets. Instead, the motor uses sophisticated software algorithms and power electronics to generate the magnetic fields traditionally provided by permanent magnets.
